Abiding in God means to stay, remain, or dwell in close relationship with God. The close relationship God desires requires trusting God for the provision needed to walk the path He has called each of us to. The individual paths of God’s children are designed with His provision. Provision is given specifically for you by your Creator. It is perfect for keeping our eyes focused on Him for guidance. Human nature causes us to seek more and to provide for ourselves. That seeking has the ability to detour us from the fullness God has for us in our calling. We tend to look around to see what else is available or look back to what was. We remember how easy life was in ignorance to the call of God. Just like the Hebrew people who were freed from slavery in Egypt. God led them out of slavery using the plagues on the pharaoh, then led the people with pillars of cloud and fire through the wilderness. They had manna and quail daily and still looked to return to slavery going so far they created a golden calf, to worship what was familiar in slavery and not their Lord. We do the same thing when we value the things of this earth over God and seek the earthly comforts we depended on before we gave our lives to Christ and became adopted children of the true God of Heaven.

Our Heavenly Father has us on a spiritual diet that perfectly feeds the spirit within us. We look for “cheat meals” to feed our desires and our feelings that betray us. We step outside of God and wonder why we struggle or feel lost. The power the Holy Spirit offers us cannot see it’s full work in us completed when our hearts are divided. (Psalm 86:11) He continues to call us and provide His light for our path. We have a God that seeks for us to return to Him. His Grace pours out in the form of Him calling you back through the stirring of His Spirit. Where our sin abounds His grace calls to our heart. God calls to a contrite heart (Psalm 51:16-17). Seek the joy found in the eternal purpose God has for you and not the temporary happiness found in momentary desire. Make your desire look like God’s desire. Seek His desire, His truth, His wisdom and His calling. In that you will find all of the provision you need. In His provision you will find His eternal truth, eternal light, and eternal joy. You will live a life that transcends the fallen world around you, with all it offers you to draw you away from God’s perfect will.

For you do not delight in sacrifice or I would give it. With a burnt offering you are not pleased. The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; A broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise. (Psalm 51:16-17)

Teach me, O Yahweh, your way, that I may walk in your truth. Unite my heart to fear your name. (Psalm 86:11)

For just as through the disobedience of the one man, the many were made sinners, so also through the obedience of the one, the many will be made righteous.
