Christianity is a marriage relationship. Marriage is designed as a representation on earth of the eternal relationship we are called to in Jesus. The Church is the bride of Christ. Husbands love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave Himself up for her. Ephesians 5:25
God unconditionally loves (Agape) us and we are called to love (Agape) God back just as we are called to Agape our spouse. “I love them that love me; and those that seek me early shall find me. – Proverbs 8:17
Do we marry someone we don’t know? Absolutely not.
We date (spend time by studying scripture) The unfolding of your words gives light;
it imparts understanding to the simple. Psalm 119:130
We talk and ask questions to get to know them (prayer) Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. James 4:8
We give gifts to show our affection (bless God in obedience) The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and a contrite heart— these, O God, you will not despise. Psalm 51:17
The ultimate goal is to marry the person we have spent time getting to know (salvation though accepting Christ as Lord). We now share a last name (indwelling of the Spirit) and we honor God in covenant relationship (sanctification).
The problem with many modern Christians is that they never leave the dating phase of their faith. They go to church and raise their hand but they never commit to the Lordship of Christ Jesus. Jesus is our Lord and Savior. We have all heard that, but what if Lord is put before Savior as an order of operation to God’s design. Christ must be Lord before He can be Savior. The knowledge of God we are called to seek has to fall one cubit from our head to our heart for us to walk in true committed, submitted, and life changing relationship with our Heavenly Father. “Seek the LORD and his strength, seek his face continually. – 1 Chronicles 16:11
“And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart. – Jeremiah 29:13
“Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you. – Matthew 7:7
“I sought the LORD, and he heard me, and delivered me from all my fears. – Psalm 34:4
“Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. – Proverbs 3:5-6
