Word of God

Many Christians attend church and hear a pastor or priest talk about the Christian faith, hopefully with references to the Bible to support the teaching. The Word of God should always be at the center of shepherding the flock God has entrusted to them. Believers are also called to not only read the written Word, but also to follow the example of God’s Word when it came to earth in Jesus, and to be lead by the Word of God placed on their hearts through the Holy Spirit.

Christians are called int relationship with God the Father. Part of that relationship is knowing who they are called into relationship with. Not solely from the words of other people but directly through the Word of God Himself. It is not good enough to simply read the Word but also to experience all of God’s Word through the Trinity. The God breathed Word found in scripture, The Word made flesh in Jesus, and the Word placed in each heart submitted to Jesus through Faith.

God’s Word found in scripture has been ordained through time to lead believers in the darkness on this world. Psalm 119:105 Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path. His Word is forever applicable in the lives of His Children as they grow in understanding of how to best serve the Kingdom they have been adopted into. Isaiah 40:8 The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God endures forever. God intends that His Word equip His chosen to serve Him and through serving grow closer to Him and His calling. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. Simply reading the Bible as a story leaves the relationship with God shallow and lacking the provision God intends it to provide. Many who spend time in the Bible see that it seems to grow with them. The meanings of the Word change throughout the journey in Christ because the Bible alive and active in the consistence support of those called by God. Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.

With the understanding of the purpose and power of the Bible believers should do more than simply read the stories but seek to understand what they mean. Read to learn the deeper truths. Read to teach others what is revealed through study. Sit quietly and meditate on what God’s Spirit is revealing through something as simple as a single word that catches the attention of a heart longing to be satisfied. Psalm 119:15 I will meditate on your precepts and fix my eyes on your ways. Be encouraged to let the spirit within you connect with the Spirit of the Living God as it displaces the sinful nature of man and fills each with His light allowing believers to understand more of God and grow closer in the relationship He desires. The relationship God chose to call each believer into. Joshua 1:8 This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success. This verse refers to the “Book of the Law” given by Moses, but the same holds true for all of scripture since the New Testament Covenant and the Holy Spirit have put God on the hearts of His children and the desires that inspired those laws were fulfilled in Jesus.

John 1:14 The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.

Jesus Christ was the perfect personification of God’s Word in human form. He walked with God the Father in perfect relationship so that those called by God had a perfect example of what He desired in His relationship with each of His children. Believers have the blessing from God to experience all of His Word in a complete scripture, the perfection of that Word in His only begotten Son, and His constant love being poured out with the Word placed on each of His children’s hearts. His Word is all around us and every Word is offered with His everlasting love attached. A word that is meant to nourish the spirit as food feeds the physical body. Matthew 4:4 Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”

With the acknowledgement of the power and purpose of His Word it should call each believer to action. Not only to read and hear but to shine the light of the Word to a lost world through action and change within each heart. James 1:22 Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. Do not be a casual bystander who hears the Word but does not listen to its calling. Allow the Word in all its forms to unfold within and make the spirit a conduit of His light. Psalm 119:130 The unfolding of your words gives light;it gives understanding to the simple. Understand God’s Word, seek it with all your heart and find the Father that is calling to into His arms. Jeremiah 29:13“You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.”
