Ten Commandments (2)

golden calf

“‘You shall not make for yourself a carved image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is on the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. You shall not bow down to them or serve them; for I the Lord your God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, 10 but showing steadfast love to thousands of those who love me and keep my commandments.

God doesn’t want the glory He desires and deserves to fall to creation over the creator. It is impossible to represent God, and trying to do so takes the focus away from God. In comparison to what God offers, this world has nothing of value. Gold and diamonds are just earth elements with value due only to visual properties and a scarcity utilized by man to create value. The same holds true for currency. All value placed on objects of this earth is imagined. There is no life without God, so look past creation and focus on the Creator. It’s a common human mistake to try and humanize God. He is larger than our limited minds can fathom. Instead of trying to rationalize or fix that understanding, we must take heart that God is larger than all of our problems and even larger than our imagination. Truly understanding God will only be possible when we have the chance to approach the throne on our knees in His presence. (Revelation 20:11) 11 Then I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it. From his presence earth and sky fled away, and no place was found for them.
