Psalm 34:8 Oh, taste and see that the Lord (YHWH) is good! Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him.
You must taste (experience) the power of God’s grace to see (understand) His love and what good means. When we hear God is good, that means perfect. He does not only do good things or provide goodness, He IS good. Good is what He is, what He is made of. Any person who takes refuge (submits) to Him will be blessed through the willingness to be led.
Many people who speak out against Christianity have never tasted the love of Jesus. The instead look at the things they hear and find fault in what walking with God entails. Very few have picked up the Bible and sought to understand anything outside of their short-sided experience. They do not want to step out of comfort and control to experience the goodness of perfection, the peace found in reverence.
Think of the Christian walk as a perfect meal. Depending on where you are reading from let’s say the perfect chili, stew, or gumbo. The Word of God provides a list of ingredients to make the end result the perfect meal. Instead of taking a bite and letting the expertise of the chef awaken the spirit and overcome darkness, they choose to hear about the ingredients and decide not to eat because they don’t like one aspect. In ignorance created in self-sufficiency they want to substitute things to suit them. They water down the gospel and wonder why their hunger is not satisfied. They ask why God won’t bend to their will and show them favor in their walk without Him. They run from God and blame Him when they are lost and scared. Then they turn away from a Savior they have never met, a God they have never experienced. They choose to turn back to an empty world and remain hungry and in pain.
Experiencing God is found in reverence (acknowledgement of His perfection) and submission (being guided in truth beyond comprehension). You can never taste the goodness that is God if you get stuck in the menu. The ingredients are as perfect as Him when added together, but you must taste to see it. Let God be the provider of ingredients and Jesus be the master chef. Take a bite of perfection and see why all things work together for those who love Him, those who seek Him in truth.
Greek Be fed and behold the perfection found in the presence of God. Joy is found in everyone who puts their trust in His truth.
