Just because you can doesn’t mean you should. Because you can say something, should you? Because you feel something, is it right? We are called to take our thoughts captive (2 Cor 10:5), control our tongues (James 3), show the love of God (John 13:34-35). These are opportunities to build Godly character. The difference between:
When you Can, Should you?
When you are Strong, be Meek.
When you are Wise, be Gentle.
When you are Angry, show compassion.
When you are criticized, be patient.
When you are Hurt, be righteous.
When you are Hopeless, be faithful.
Add you own example of Godly integrity as a comment so we can all learn from each other.
We are called and set apart. The world and its authorized will try and drown out our calling. We cannot control what comes against us, but we can control our reaction. We can submit to God, and reflect His character. Then the world can see more of our Heavenly Father.
2 Corinthians 10:5
We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.
James 3:5-6
Likewise, the tongue is a small part of the body, but it makes great boasts. Consider what a great forest is set on fire by a small spark. The tongue also is a fire, a world of evil among the parts of the body. It corrupts the whole body, sets the whole course of one’s life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell.
John 13:34-35
A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.
