God created laws in the Old Testament to drive His chosen toward a focus on Him. They did not have a relationship with God and He had not yet put His law in their heart so the next best way to protect His people from sin and the deceiver was to provide laws. Society today imitates God as it creates laws that introduce false morality in the absence of His authority as the world falls deeper into the hands of satan. Moses acted as a conduit to document God’s laws which provided structure, protection, and ultimately glory to the Father. We see laws that tell Israel not to eat certain foods that could be harmful, not to marry outside of His people as not to introduce other beliefs into the culture, and to observe rituals that made the people put God ahead of their desires. God the Father had to do this to protect the lineage that would give the world a savior when He would come down in the flesh as a sacrifice that would fulfill these laws and culminate in a relationship with His people. The laws were always meant to be protection and guidance that focused on a moment when everyone would be drawn to Him through the Son. Jesus says in John 12:32 32 And I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all people to myself.”
During the time when God became man and showed what the law in practice should look like, there were Jewish “experts” in the law that could not see what God was doing with the institution of the laws. We see Jesus telling the Pharisee in John 8:19 “You know neither me nor my Father. If you knew me, you would know my Father also.” This makes clear that the law was the focus and not God. The “experts” were dictating to the people what to believe and adding to the laws given by Moses to elevate themselves over the people. The Pharisee used the laws meant to help people focus on God to make the people focus on them. They made themselves idols and turned the focus from the Father. When Jesus came to fulfill the law and show what the law looked like in application they were offended and decided to kill the perfection the law exemplified. Jesus warns his disciples to beware of the teachings of the Pharisees and Sadducees in Matthew 16:11-12 11 How is it that you fail to understand that I did not speak about bread? Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees.” 12 Then they understood that he did not tell them to beware of the leaven of bread, but of the teaching of the Pharisees and Sadducees.
Not only did the Pharisee lose sight of God’s purpose but also the prophecies that were fulfilled in Jesus. They were blind to the God of scripture and God on the flesh. They had no knowledge of who God was, a loving Heavenly Father, but a paganistic view of a dictator god. They ignored His love through the giving of His only Son and murdered the very culmination of what they did not understand. The very people Jesus refers to in Revelation 2:9 9 “‘I know your tribulation and your poverty (but you are rich) and the slander[a] of those who say that they are Jews and are not, but are a synagogue of Satan. as a synagogue of satan not only killed the Messiah and persecuted those who acknowledged Him, but went a step further in blasphemy and created an artificial Jesus called the Talmud. Jewish followers call the Talmud the Oral Torah and use it as a guide on how to apply the laws given by Moses as a daily practice. Jesus came to show them how to do that exact thing and then draw all people to Himself. The Jewish leaders decided to kill the Messiah and then make the rules themselves. They go on to degrade Jesus and lead practicing Jews to deceive Christians. They are told that even the greatest of non-Jews are deserving of death. This does not sound like a personification of the Torah, but instead a man-made interpretation designed to maintain power and keep the focus on leaders and not the Father. Understand that the laws were made to focus on God and not give power to priests and leaders. The laws in practice should have helped Israelites understand God and see the benefits of submitting to Him. He then came to earth to fulfill His law and establish His kingdom on earth and was met with rejection because the false morality established in the law was defiled by sin and perpetuated by satan. Establish your faith based on the Bible and fueled by love and not laws.
