When new Christians come to faith, they are taught the ways of God by other believers who are hopefully being conduits of the Holy Spirit and not adding in the fallibility of our humanity. Mature believers help to raise up new brothers and sisters so that they may walk with Jesus in the Holy Spirit and know all things through Him. As our walk develops our spirit into the image of Jesus, we begin to see the things that were once explained to us become real, and our image of God start to have depth and dimension that were not there before. Then more of the unfathomable Father is revealed.
Part of that young Christian teaching is how evil and demonic the devil is. We are shown images of a red demon with horns and a forked tongue attacking with an army of demons behind him. We hear about demonic possessions in horror movies and see the obvious evil in that form. What we don’t always think about is that the devil is in fact fallen angel, beautiful yet full of disdain and pride. Before the increase in technology in the form of social media, movies, music, and art the faithful were far more sensitive to the presence of evil and things that are not of God. Today we are desensitized to how the deceiver moves among us and draws people to him and away from Jesus. Where once the image of satan has pure evil, he has now become the symbol of human nature and pleasure in worldly things. In his clever attempt to thwart God, he has influenced the lost to normalize self-centered individualism. He has convinced people they are the most important thing, and personal expression is the highest calling. What was once thought of as a Christian antagonist is now thought of as humanist philosophy and even enlightenment. So much so that a large vocal group seem to demonize Christianity as intolerant of the evil they support. Rebellion against, and defiance of God is now seen as a fight against oppression, a fight for human rights, and a struggle for equality. The lost masses fight against the Creator of all things in an attempt to justify self-determination. They believe that they can decide what is best for themselves as opposed to understanding who they were created by, and how they were designed.
Can you see how the devil has cleverly disguised rebellion as freedom? He takes many things that are symbolic of the goodness of God and morphs them into symbols that represent the corruption he thrives on. Think about how the LBGTQ community uses the rainbow as their flag when the rainbow was sent by God after the flood as a symbol He would never destroy the earth again. The flood happened because the world had fallen into sin and now that fallenness uses the rainbow in what seems like a mockery of God. The upside down cross that is meant to be an anti-Christian symbol was first a symbol of humility as the Apostle Peter requested to be crucified upside down because he was not worthy of being killed in the same way as his Lord. Again, humility in faith turned to represent prideful opposition. The star is also inverted and used in rituals. The star in its upright form symbolizes spirituality at its top point. That point being turned to the bottom is the goal of the deceiver. The star was also a symbol used to show Abraham the number of descendants that will come from his obedience and also indicated that our Savior was born in Bethlehem. A final, more painful example of this is the defense that abortion is ok through the statement “this is my body.” The exact words used by Jesus at the Last Supper as He instituted communion at the Last Supper before He went to the cross. It’s hard to see the world, whether blatantly or ignorantly, distorting God and His message to all mankind. Not only are people deaf to His Word but are walking in line with the devil as he seeks to turn all away from the fullness found in God and make the Father’s ways perceived as oppressive and evil.
Rights given to people by God, in a country founded on Christian principles, are abused as the focus becomes what can be done versus what should be done. I can say anything I want, but should I? People live in freedom and without purpose. The importance of character and integrity is lost on people who are blind to what is turning them toward a life of self-worship. What people lose in their short-sided vision is that the emotions they base decisions on will toss them back and forth and create instability in their life. They will have to constantly reevaluate “who they are” because the identity they assume is ever evolving through the fallen influence of the world. A world filled with powerful people who use the lost to gain influence and then dispose of them. The King of Kings is waiting on His children to turn back and seek truth. He wants people to find a peace that does not exist in man. He wants you to find stability in His never changing design for all of humanity.
